In fact, the folks over at WPExplorer have <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wpexplorer.com\/optimize-images-wordpress-guide\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a whole guide<\/a> dedicated to optimizing images for easy reference. But whether you\u2019re a WP native or just a newbie, there are a few things about image optimization you might not know about yet, but you definitely should if you\u2019re looking for results.<\/p>\n<p>After all, images are far better at generating revenue than text alone, and that\u2019s especially true for e-commerce sites. Most people remember up to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/marketing\/power-of-visual-communication-infographic#sm.0001ui2u8tnl0ezvtra1chowtdppu\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">80 percent<\/a> of what they see but only 20 percent of what they read, meaning that in terms of branding and sales, images are significantly bigger movers and shakers than bulk copy. And if that fancy fact doesn\u2019t impress you, try <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jeffbullas.com\/2012\/05\/28\/6-powerful-reasons-why-you-should-include-images-in-your-marketing-infographic\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">these<\/a> on for size:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Articles with images get 94% more total views<\/li>\n<li>In an e-commerce site, 67% of consumers say the quality of a product image is \u201cvery important\u201d in selecting and purchasing a product<\/li>\n<li>In an online store, customers think that the quality of a product&#8217;s image is more important than product-specific information (63%), a long description (54%) and ratings and reviews (53%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s why you should be putting a heavy emphasis on your images, if you\u2019re not already, and that\u2019s also why we\u2019ve compiled a list of 6 hacks that will help you maximize the impact of those images.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cu-wrapper\"><div class=\"cu-content\">Don\u2019t miss: 5 More Time-Saving WP Image Plugins<\/div><div class=\"cu-button\"><a class=\"cu-popup button button-primary button-large\" href=\"#content_upgrade_popup_4337\">Click Here<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<h2>#1. Sharpen Resized JPEGs<\/h2>\n<p>You may already know that you should be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blazedigital.com.au\/best-wordpress-plugin-resize-images-upload\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resizing your images<\/a> before you upload them, but here\u2019s one tip they may not tell you in WordPress 101: You can actually sharpen your resized JPEG images while they\u2019re uploading. Why is that helpful? If you want to improve your site\u2019s searchability, consider leveraging your category page in place of a traditional drop-down menu. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vwo.com\/blog\/removing-drop-down-increased-conversions-on-ecommerce-website\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This case study<\/a> from Body Ecology showed a 56% increase in revenue by doing just that.<\/p>\n<p>If you, too, want to use a dedicated category page, consider giving each category its own image to help boost its effectiveness. Create Dynamic Images<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes you might want to get a little jazzy with your images, and a good way to do that is by including hovers or rollovers. A lot of designers or developers code dynamic images into the site by hand, but if you have WP you might consider using a plugin like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/wpvisualslideboxbuilder.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WP Visual Slide Box Builder<\/a> (or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/woocommerce-image-hover\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WooCommerce Image Hover<\/a> for your product images), which allows you to quickly and easily create rollover images to impress your users.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to images, the details matter, too. If you want a way to include dynamic images while also adding an extremely helpful feature to your product pages, WooCommerce also has an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/woocommerce-image-zoom\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Image Zoom<\/a> plugin so that people can see your products more clearly when they click on it.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4346\" src=\"https:\/\/saucal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/zoom-image.jpg?resize=792%2C412\" alt=\"zoom-image\" width=\"792\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>#4. Add OG Protocol for Social Media Images<\/h2>\n<p>If your site sells some cool stuff, chances are that users will be sharing your rad products on social media. That\u2019s great news for you, but only if what they\u2019re sharing looks as professional as your site. You don\u2019t want your product images being blurry or squished when they appear in people\u2019s Facebook news feed. That\u2019s where Open Graph (OG) Protocol comes into play.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4345\" src=\"https:\/\/saucal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/woocommerce-product.jpg?resize=920%2C466\" alt=\"woocommerce-product\" width=\"920\" height=\"466\" \/><br \/>\nSocial networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Pinterest automatically pull information from your site when someone shares your product page (or homepage). That info \u2013 which includes your page\u2019s title, the URL, your description, and most importantly, your images \u2013 is snagged using OG Protocol, and you want to make sure that it\u2019s grabbing the right info and images.<\/p>\n<p>One way you can do that is by using a plugin like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/yoast-woocommerce-seo\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WooCommerce SEO<\/a>. Torque Mag has a pretty simple walkthrough of the process that you can find <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/torquemag.io\/2013\/08\/make-your-woocommerce-store-more-social\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. You can also manually add OG Protocol to your headers (walkthrough found <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.elegantthemes.com\/blog\/tips-tricks\/how-to-add-open-graph-tags-to-wordpress\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h2>#5. Overcome Image Blocking with Alt Text<\/h2>\n<p>Another thing you may not know about is image blocking, which is a setting in most email clients that allows users to block certain images in their email messages. Give Your Images All the Feels<\/h2>\n<p>Okay, okay. This isn\u2019t necessarily WP specific, so maybe consider it a \u201cbonus\u201d hack and try not to get too mad about it.<\/p>\n<p>Optimizing your images isn\u2019t just about making mediocre pictures look their best. It\u2019s also about choosing good images from the start so your \u201coptimization\u201d time is minimal. So what makes a \u201cgood\u201d image, exactly? Well, images that create an emotional connection are a great place to start.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about a site in general, you\u2019ll want images that are clean, well-framed, and well-lit (more on that <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sitepoint.com\/tricks-images-make-users-feel-think\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).
